Product: Maxim Argile Round Dining Table

The design of the Maxim table-sculpture stems from the seamless link between its shape, consisting of three petals, and the material it is made from. Just as a sculpture emerges from the material in the hands of the master, likewise by looking at this round design table you can perceive the effort and time taken by man to shape it. It derives from manual craftsmanship and a cold moulding technique, which does not involve exploiting energy resources. The industrialised processes are only to support the high artisan component of the manual phases of pouring the liquid cement and the finishing.

The base of this modern table is in fact finished in clay, with earthy and natural shades. Maxim comes in two versions: a round table with a transparent glass top that lets you appreciate the sculptural base in its entirety, and the Maxim Argile model completely spatulated in clay, lending it an even more organic look. "When the material is sufficient in itself, without superstructures or additions, we have a pure and direct object that is already a finished product," explain the designers Pio and Tito Toso.

Pio e Tito Toso

Brothers Pio & Tito Toso were born in Venice in 1973 and 1971, respectively. In Venice, they graduated in Architecture at IUAV in 1998, two years after opening the Pio & Tito Toso studio, beginning their activity in architecture, both nationally and internationally. They have created fair booths, exhibitions, fittings, shops, and offices, and managed the images and graphics of brands like Alessi, Artemide, Colombo Design, Fly Line, Foscarini, Frighetto, Guzzini, iGuzzini, Leucos, Metalco, Rossi di Albizzate, Segis, Venini, Vistosi.
Their work is founded on the constant search for meaning and the role that design establishes with users and the environment - from the urban scale to the domestic dimension. This approach translates into a poetics of listening, where form and function find their balance in ethics and sustainability. Today, Pio & Tito, based in Zero Branco (Treviso), collaborate with their sister Anna Toso as senior architect and Claudio Busatto as senior designer, both graduates of IUAV in Venice.

Their first products include the Twin double glass coffee table (1999) produced by Cattelan Italia and the Manta lamp (2001) by Foscarini. In 2003, for the Doimo Group, they designed the Cubo seat, a parallelepiped that can be rotated according to seating requirements. For Artemide (2007), they developed the graceful Zeffiro lamp, the Melete and Aede wall lamps, and the Meteorite line of fixtures in suspension, ceiling, wall and table versions. With Stilnovo, they designed the Quad line with LED pendants and wall and floor versions in aluminium and polyurethane. For Metalco, they created the Natural Puzzle modular stone bench, the Jardin lectern for public spaces and the outdoor marker in Corten steel, also in the Jardin collection. Products created with Vistosi include the Incanto ceiling lamp and the Oto hanging lamp series. For Pedrali, they designed the Ray 5166 wooden coat stand, the Brik polyethene umbrella stand, the Ikon Table Ikit, the Lunar high and low tables, the Flag wall hangers and the Concrete table.

Their awards include the ADA Archiproducts Design Award in 2020, the International Compasso d'Oro Selection in 2015, Design Plus 2016, the Red Dot Design Award in 2017, 2015 and 2012, and the Good Design Award 2009, I.Dot selection 2004-2005, 2005-2006, 2006-2007, Young & design 2005 and 2003. They have participated in exhibitions in Europe and the United States, including 'Italian Design since 1948' at the Museo dei Fori Imperiali in Rome and Palazzo Bertalazone di San Fermo in Turin.
